Create a Clear robots.txt File
robots.txt tells compliant crawlers which URL paths they may request. A small mistake can block an important section of a site, so the safest starting point is usually a simple file with only the directives you actually need.
Add Your XML Sitemap
Declaring the sitemap location gives crawlers another route to discover the canonical URLs you want them to process. The sitemap itself should contain valid preferred URLs rather than redirects, duplicate variants or intentionally non-indexable pages.
Robots.txt Does Not Mean Noindex
Blocking crawling and controlling indexing are different tasks. A robots.txt Disallow prevents compliant crawling of a path; it is not a reliable substitute for page-level indexing directives when a URL must be excluded from search results.
Review Rules Before Uploading
Check wildcard and path rules carefully and test changes after deployment. Development or staging directives such as a site-wide Disallow should never be carried into production accidentally.
